KB & TK Lab UM Teaching System

KB & TK Lab UM is a five-day public school that accepts all learners including atypical learners and learners that are not Muslims. The school days at KB & TK Lab UM start from Monday to Friday, 7:00 AM - 11:00 AM. Although every Friday, learners go home an hour earlier to give way to praying.

KB & TK Lab UM offers different activities for all children. The day usually starts at 7:00 AM when students fill the school gradually. For 30 minutes of the arrival time, teachers stand at the entrance area to greet students and students will greet back by performing "salim" (a gesture that shows respect to older people). Within this time, students are allowed to play at the playground area alone or with their friends. After 30 minutes, students and teachers will go to the school yard to either participate in flag ceremony or morning exercise. Every Monday, flag ceremony is being conducted at the KB & TK Lab UM while in other days, morning exercise is the activity done. During this morning gathering, students queue according to their grade level and section. So far, KB & TK Lab UM have five sections: KB Star (Playgroup with ages usually 3 - 4), A - Meteor and A - Sun (Kindergarten 1 with ages usually 4 - 5), and B - Moon and B - Rainbow (Kindergarten 2 with ages usually 4 - 6).

Morning exercise led by UM Practice Teachers and KB & TK Lab Teachers

At 8:00 AM, students are expected to go to respective classrooms. For at most 20 minutes, the assigned teacher will begin the class hours with circle time. The teacher and students create a big circle as they sit on the mat. There, they will pray, greet each other (through songs or play activities), and they will also sing routine songs. After the circle time, the assigned teacher will already begin the discussion while learners are still sitting on the mat. After the discussion, students will go to tables to do their arts and/or writing activities. Activities are usually done individually and they are usually varied. Some activities are graded and some are included to help students develop their cognitive and motor skills. Break time starts at 10:00 AM - 10:30 AM. After that, students will prepare to go home already at 10:45 AM.
